Welcome Message from the Head of Department

It is with great pride and a deep sense of responsibility that I welcome you to the Department of Economics, Adamawa State University, Mubi. As one of the pioneer departments of the University, our department has remained committed to academic excellence, research innovation, and the holistic development of our students.

Since its inception in the 2002/2003 academic session as a unit under the former Department of Business Studies, and its establishment as a full-fledged department in 2004, the Department has experienced steady growth. Today, we run both undergraduate and postgraduate programs that are fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC), reflecting our commitment to quality and standards in higher education.

A significant milestone in our history was achieved in 2024 when the Department successfully hosted its first International Conference on Security and Economic Development—the first of its kind in the history of Adamawa State University. The conference brought together scholars, policymakers, and development practitioners from within and outside Nigeria to deliberate on critical issues affecting the Northeast region and beyond. This landmark event reaffirmed our leadership role in driving intellectual discourse and policy-relevant research in Nigeria.

Our academic strength lies in our dedicated and highly qualified lecturers. With a team of 23 academic staff, including two professors and 11 Ph. D holders, we are well-positioned to provide excellent teaching, research supervision, and mentorship. Our postgraduate offerings have grown to include a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Economics, Master of Health Economics, M.Sc. in Economics, and Ph.D. in Economics.

We are particularly proud of our graduates who are making meaningful impacts across various sectors both locally and internationally. Many of them are serving in prestigious institutions such as the Central Bank of Nigeria, Federal and State Governments, universities, international NGOs, and the private sector. Their outstanding performance in professional examinations such as ICAN, where they have earned national recognitions including Overall Best Candidate awards is a testament to the quality of education in our department.

As we continue to uphold the vision and mission of Adamawa State University, we are determined to remain a centre of excellence in economics education, policy and research. We invite prospective students, researchers, collaborators, and development partners to join us in shaping a more secure, prosperous, and economically inclusive society.
