Brief History of Microbiology
The Microbiology programme was established by the University Senate in 2018, followed by successful National Universities Commission (NUC) Resource Verification in 2019 and obtained a full NUC Accreditation status in 2024. The first cohort of students was admitted during the 2020/2021 academic session.
Over the years, the department has flourished, graduating its first set of students in 2025 and now serving a vibrant student population exceeding 400. Our well-equipped laboratories, housed in the Faculty of Science Laboratory Science Complex, support teaching and research.
The department is actively developing curricula for PGD, MSc, and PhD programs in microbiology and Biotechnology, with plans to launch them soon.
