About the Department

Empowering Farmers, Enriching Economies, Transforming Lives

The Department was created in August, 2005 where the present departmental structure was approved for the faculty of agriculture. The Department has developed and have 15 academic staff.

The Department of Agricultural Economics & Extension was established to respond to the growing demand for experts who can bridge the gap between agricultural science, economic development, and rural outreach. Our curriculum is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in agricultural economics, agribusiness management, rural development, and extension methodologies. We emphasize both academic excellence and community relevance, ensuring our graduates are well-prepared to contribute meaningfully to food security, policy formulation, and the transformation of rural livelihoods.

Our students engage in coursework, hands-on projects, and internships that build their expertise in resource economics, farm management, agricultural marketing, agricultural finance, and extension communication. The department also promotes research and innovation, particularly in areas related to sustainable agricultural practices and development interventions.
