With great pleasure, I welcome you to the Department of Geography and Environmental Sciences of Adamawa State University, Mubi.

About the Department

Exploring Spaces, Sustaining Places.

The Department of Geography and Environmental Sciences of the Adamawa State University Mubi was established in 2002. The Department started running dual programmes when B. Sc. Environmental Management (EVM) was introduced in the 2024/2025 academic session.

Philosophy

The Philosophy underlying the Geography and Environmental Resource Management Degree programmes is to produce graduates equipped with appropriate knowledge to make effective contributions to the development of Nigeria, Africa and the global community having been exposed to a broad foundation of knowledge in the various sub-fields of Geography and of Environmental Resource

Management.

Mission and Vision Statement

The Mission statement of The Department of Geography and Environmental Science of Adamawa State University Mubi is to produce science based graduates of the highest moral and academic excellence in the two related fields of study. It focuses on policies that will enhance highest standards in various aspects of Geography and Environmental Management. Its graduates shall be trained and oriented to utilize academic and research activities geared towards proffering solutions to adverse environmental challenges, poverty reduction, food security and employment opportunities. The vision of the Department is embedded in that of Adamawa State University, Mubi.

Resources and Facilities

  • Lecture halls

The Department has three Lecture halls, each with 200 students sitting capacity.

  • Library

The Departmental Library is stocked with relevant books and other reference materials such journals, students’ research projects and thesis.

  • Laboratory

The Department is endowed with well-equipped Geographic Information System (G.I.S) and Cartographic Laboratories to facilitate teaching, learning and research.

In addition to the laboratories is a well-equipped Weather Observation Station for data collection, weather studies, teaching and research purposes.
