The Governing Council of Adamawa State University (ADSU), led by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Professor Maxwell Gidado (SAN), commissioned an 8,000-litre solar-powered borehole at the Low-Cost University Staff Quarters. The project marks a significant milestone in the university’s ongoing efforts to improve welfare and infrastructure for staff and residents.

The solar borehole, designed to provide a reliable and sustainable water supply, reflects ADSU’s commitment to integrating renewable energy solutions into its facilities. By harnessing solar power, the project ensures uninterrupted access to clean water while reducing dependence on conventional electricity sources. This initiative is expected to ease the daily challenges faced by staff and students, particularly in areas where water scarcity has been a recurring issue.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Professor Gidado emphasized the importance of the project in enhancing the quality of life within the university community. He noted that the Governing Council remains dedicated to monitoring and supporting projects that directly impact staff and students. According to him, the borehole is not just a utility but a symbol of ADSU’s drive toward sustainable development.

The Pro-Chancellor used the occasion to express profound appreciation to the Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, for his unwavering support to the university. He commended the governor’s commitment to education and infrastructure development, stressing that such investments are vital in positioning ADSU as a centre of excellence. Professor Gidado remarked that Governor Fintiri’s vision for higher education continues to inspire confidence and progress across the institution.

In addition, Professor Gidado lauded the efforts of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Augustine Clement, for his tireless dedication and leadership. He acknowledged the Vice Chancellor’s role in ensuring that projects are executed to standard and aligned with the university’s long-term goals. “The Vice Chancellor has worked all round to see that the university attends its goals, and this borehole is a clear testimony of that commitment,” he stated.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by members of the Governing Council, University Management, and representatives of the host community. The event highlighted the collaborative spirit between the Council, Management, and government, underscoring the shared responsibility of advancing education and welfare in Adamawa State.

At the close of the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor expressed gratitude to the Governing Council for its effective oversight role, reaffirming that accountability and monitoring remain central to the university’s success. He also extended appreciation to Governor Fintiri for creating an enabling environment that allows ADSU to thrive.
