The Vice Chancellor of Adamawa State University, Mubi, Professor Augustine Clement, has reaffirmed his commitment to improving the University’s infrastructure and reducing the high cost of electricity generated from diesel-powered systems by championing the adoption of solar energy as a sustainable alternative source of power.

This forward-looking initiative is designed to gradually extend across the University’s facilities and units, ensuring a more reliable and eco-friendlier power supply for teaching, learning, research, examinations, and administrative activities. By embracing renewable energy, the University positions itself as a leader in sustainable development within Nigeria’s higher education sector.

A landmark achievement under this initiative is the successful deployment of solar energy at the University Computer-Based Test (CBT) Center. During the end of second semester CBT examinations, the center operated entirely on solar power, marking a significant breakthrough in the University’s infrastructure modernization efforts.

According to staff at the CBT Center, the use of solar energy ensured the smooth conduct of examinations without interruptions or electricity faults. They expressed profound appreciation to the Vice Chancellor and the entire University Management for this visionary step, describing it as a “game-changer” in enhancing the reliability of academic activities.

In his remarks, Professor Augustine Clement emphasized that the solar initiative reflects the University’s broader vision of harnessing innovation to drive academic excellence. He assured staff and students that the project will be expanded to cover more facilities, reinforcing the University’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for learning and research.

The Vice Chancellor noted that beyond reducing costs and improving efficiency, the initiative aligns with global best practices in environmental sustainability. He highlighted that the University’s adoption of solar energy demonstrates its readiness to embrace modern solutions that not only benefit the institution but also contribute to Nigeria’s national goals of renewable energy integration.

He further acknowledged the unwavering support of the Visitor to the University, His Excellency the Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, whose developmental interventions have been instrumental in positioning Adamawa State University to meet global standards. He noted that the Governor’s commitment to education and infrastructure has provided the enabling environment for initiatives such as the solar energy project to thrive.

The successful commencement of solar-powered examinations stands as a positive indication of the effectiveness and potential of the initiative, positioning Adamawa State University as a model for sustainable energy adoption in higher education.
