DEPARTMENT OF ANIMAL PRODUCTION
Philosophy and Objectives
The Bachelor of Agriculture (Animal Production, Ruminant nutrition, Monogastric nutrition and Reproductive physiology options) programmes have the following objectives:
- To produce graduates who can engage in any of the options(Animal Production, Ruminant nutrition, Monogastric nutrition and Reproductive physiology options) and research that will provide relevant and appropriate solutions to the state and the country’s agricultural and rural development problems and improve agricultural productivity in general;
- To produce graduates with sufficient technical, productive and entrepreneurial sills in the Animal Production, Ruminant nutrition, Monogastric nutrition and Reproductive physiology options) and Agriculture in general, who can take employment any where in Nigeria in any aspect of Agriculture and related areas;
- To produce graduates farmers in the fields (Animal Production, Ruminant nutrition, Monogastric nutrition and Reproductive physiology options) that are relevant to themselves, the industry and society, and who can contribute effectively to the national development goals in Agriculture;
- To produce graduates that will profitably put their skills into operation by establishing and operating their own farming enterprises.
The Department has well-equipped laboratories for the following practical: Animal Nutrition, Meat science and Animal Physiology. Its field facilities include: Poultry unit; Sheep and Goats unit; Cattle; Rabbitry and Pasture Development units.
