Welcome Message from the Head of Department

I write on behalf of the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry Adamawa State University Mubi, to welcome you to our website. Our vision is to continue to grow in student population, staff strength, infrastructural development and research output. We realize how honourable our job is and the need to build a generation fortified with scientific knowledge, skills and comprehensive education in chemistry. Thus, we are committed and dedicated to this vision. PAC as a Department offers students some ways to engage with knowledge of Chemistry, including two bachelor’s degree programmes (B.Sc. Chemistry and B.Sc. Industrial Chemistry), postgraduate programmes in Chemistry and hands-on research opportunities. The Department is equipped with a wide range of modern instruments such as FTIR, AFM, Auto Lab. TGA etc., necessary for the successful completion of any of our programmes.

Prof. Shinggu D. Yamta

Head of Department

Pure and Applied Chemistry

About the Department

Innovating through Molecules, Transforming the Future.

We are privileged to have academic staff members whose research interests cut across nearly all the fundamental sub-disciplines of chemistry and interdisciplinary staff.

Over the years, we have built a reputation for a strong interdisciplinary research. Our graduates all over the country and in the diaspora are having enviable careers in chemistry and beyond.
I wish you a productive and informative session as you take the time to browse our website.

The Department came into existence in October in 2002, when the University was established. Presently the Department offers courses leading to the award of B.Sc. (Hons) Chemistry and B.Sc. (Hons) Industrial Chemistry which was introduced in 2020/2021 academic session.

We are the best choice for academically, motivated and working professionals that prepare students to be thoughtful competent citizens, able to lead wisely and responsibly, and contribute to the common good of the society.

Chemistry at Adamawa State University encourages engaged learning by providing more opportunities for student interaction, immersion, and integration fostered by an integrated and interdependent academic experience underpinned in our undergraduate curriculum.

Our long-term vision is to prepare broadly educated, technologically, efficient and productive Pure and Industrial Chemists for our region, state, nation and the world.  This demands the best chemistry curriculum, academic staff, students and facilities which we already have and still trying to update.

I certainly have confidence in you because we enrolled you as the best students, who have an undoubted talent that will continue to drive us to build a culture of individual enterprise and profoundly impact upon the world around us.

We can build this in two ways: (1) through continued growth, and (2) through innovation at the dynamic interfaces between chemistry and other scientific disciplines, including biology, medicine, physics, law, earth and atmospheric sciences, engineering, etc.

Finally, as promising chemists at Adamawa State University, we stimulate you to discover a new horizon that will transform your understanding about the world about yourself and about your future! What on earth is not Chemistry?
