Welcome Message from the Head of Department
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the Department of Computer Science. Our department is a vibrant academic community committed to excellence in teaching, research, and innovation. Whether you are a prospective student, current student, parent, alumnus, or industry partner, we are delighted to have you explore what we have to offer.
Our academic programmes are thoughtfully designed to provide students with a strong theoretical foundation and hands-on practical skills. We cultivate an environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration to address real-world challenges through technology. We view education as a fundamental right more than just a route to employment, it is an essential foundation for every individual’s digital journey. We strongly encourage both young men and women to explore the vast and growing opportunities within the ICT sector. This dynamic field is continuously evolving, creating future careers that may not yet exist but will soon become vital.
As a society, we must do more to raise awareness and promote ICT by making it clear how accessible it is to learn, innovate, and build real-world applications. It is equally important to empower young people with the knowledge that they have a critical role to play in shaping the digital future. Advancements in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Robotics are no longer futuristic concepts they are actively transforming our world today. The ICT industry is a fast-paced, innovative, and opportunity-rich environment. Achieving success in this field requires more than academic credentials; it demands creativity, critical thinking, and hands-on practical skills.
We are proud of our dedicated faculty, state-of-the-art laboratories, cutting-edge research, and strong industry partnerships that create a rich and engaging learning experience. As the tech landscape continues to evolve, we remain committed to developing the next generation of digital leaders who will make meaningful contributions both locally and globally.
Thank you for visiting our webpage. We look forward to connecting with you.

About the Department
Empowering Innovation Through Code and Creativity
The Department came into existence during the 2002/2003 academic session and was initially known as the Department of Mathematical Sciences. It offered two programmes: B.Sc. Computer Science and B.Sc. Mathematics. The Department was established to produce graduates with a solid foundation in teaching and research across various areas of Mathematical Sciences relevant to the socio-political and economic development of the host community, Adamawa State, and Nigeria at large. It was also intended to provide skilled manpower in different areas of Mathematical Sciences and to empower graduates to become self-employed.
In the 2013/2014 academic session, the Department of Computer Science was separated from the Department of Mathematical Sciences and became a fully-fledged department. It began offering B.Sc. Computer Science, PGD Computer Science, and M.Sc. Computer Science programmes. The Department is committed to training a new generation of leaders in Computing Sciences by promoting excellence in teaching, research, and community development, in alignment with the vision and mission of the university.
The Department is endowed with high-quality academic staff who are dedicated to delivering top-tier education through the implementation of well-structured courses. The curriculum, lecture materials, and tutorials are regularly reviewed and updated to ensure they are current, robust, relevant to real-life applications, and adequate for addressing contemporary issues in methodologies, product development, and scientific and technological advancement
