Welcome Message from the Head of Department
You are welcome to the Department of Educational Foundations the heart of Faculty of Education in Adamawa State University, Mubi. Its offers four undergraduate programmes and eight postgraduate programmes. Thus, department is a unique place, beyond comparison, with other places in exploring fields of study that educate the whole of a person and give opportunities for careers that make a difference.
The Department’s mission is preparing students for challenges of our educational system. This is recognition of the fact that nowadays is intricate. This means the type of education society needs is the one that prepares students for challenges by ushering in creativity, flexibility and innovation in the courses of training the curricula of courses in department are broad-based and responsive to the challenges of the twenty-first century

About the Department
Laying the Groundwork for Lifelong Learning and Educational Excellence.
Mission
The determination of the Department of Educational Foundations is to educate the students to become creators of facilities for human resource development in schools. The students are provided the basic background for effective teaching in addition to receiving guidelines on counselling learners and management of learners in school age. To this end, the Department has launched the programmes involving Early Childhood, Educational Management, Guidance and Counselling Education and Primary Education Studies. These programmes are in addition to provide the basic education courses that are designed to make up the professional graduate teacher.
Vision
The Educational Foundations programmes shall be a source of producing graduate teachers that will be a strong foundation for leading future generations of the Nigerian nation. These teachers shall possess skills and techniques required to enhance success and productivity in all States of the Federation especially Adamawa State and neighbouring societies. The mounting of its additional programmes of Early Childhood Education, Educational management, Guidance and Counselling Education and Primary Education Studies form a vital starting point for paving the way for more future advancement of education in the society all of these programmes go alone with teaching subjects in either sciences or arts. These programmes provide meaningful insights on the management of the human resources towards becoming not only active layers in societal development but also becoming initiators of innovations for advancing education.
Admission and Graduation requirements
In addition to acceptable scores in UTME, candidates must have obtained five Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSC) credit passes which must include English Language, Mathematics and any other subjects in the humanities or sciences at not more than 2 sittings.
Direct Entry mode
Anyone of the following qualification is admissible for the three (3) year education degree programme, five senior secondary school certificate SSC (or equivalent) credit passes in relevant subjects, two of which are at the Advanced Level. Or Candidate must have:
- Passes in two subjects at the Nigeria certificate in education
- Passes in three other subjects at ‘O’ level
- A pass at merit level in a relevant diploma programme.
Graduation requirements
In addition to the general requirements for graduation at the university students must offer and pass courses totalling 120 credit hours, 60 of which must come from the relevant option areas in early childhood education for the four-year programme they must also complete and receive a pass grade in teaching practice and a research project report on a topic by the department.
Admission Requirements for Postgraduate
- A first degree in the relevant/related subject of Adamawa State University or any other University recognized by senate of the University.
- HND or any other recognized equivalent qualification in the relevant/related subject with a minimum of lower credit and having at least 2 years post-qualification experience;
- A Professional qualification not lower than HND in a related discipline with at least 3 years post-qualification relevant experience.
- Five Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSC) credit passes which must include English Language, Mathematics and any other subjects in the humanities or sciences at not more than 2 sittings.
