About the Department
Shaping Voices. Informing Society, Empowering Generations.
The Department of Mass Communication was established in 2016/2017 academic session by the Senate of the Adamawa State University, Mubi. Currently, the department runs an undergraduate programme in Mass Communication which leads to the award of B.Sc. (Hons) Degree in Mass Communication. The department, with the approval of the University Senate, will commence MSc and PhD programs in the 2025/2026 academic session. The department academic staff fall into three (3) categories namely: Tenure, Part-Time and Visiting with members of staff possessing varying academic and professional qualifications. The department has about 758 students at the undergraduate level and has already graduated three set of students. As a component unit of the proposed Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, the department is dedicated to the goal of graduating students with the required educational abilities needed to excel in different areas of communication in today’s world and into the future. Graduates can function as lifelong learners, critical thinking people and responsible members of society.
The Department of Mass Communication is one of the most dynamic and sought-after units within the Faculty of Social Sciences. It was established to provide in-depth knowledge and professional skills in mass media, with an emphasis on ethical reporting, public discourse, and multimedia storytelling.
Our curriculum is designed in line with global standards and national accreditation requirements. We place a strong emphasis on digital literacy, creativity, media law, and social responsibility.
