At Adamawa State University (ADSU), the Security Unit plays a pivotal role in ensuring a safe and conducive environment for learning, research, and community engagement. Tasked with the protection of lives and property, the unit is committed to maintaining peace and order across all university campuses. The Security Unit remains steadfast in its commitment to creating a secure environment that supports the university’s mission of academic excellence and community development.

Mandate & Responsibilities

The Security Unit is entrusted with the following core responsibilities:

  • Campus Safety: Ensuring the safety of students, staff, and visitors within the university premises.

  • Property Protection: Safeguarding university assets against theft, vandalism, and other security threats.

  • Law Enforcement Collaboration: Working in tandem with local law enforcement agencies to address security concerns and incidents.

  • Emergency Response: Providing prompt and effective responses to emergencies, including medical situations, fires, and other crises.

  • Access Control: Monitoring and regulating entry and exit points to prevent unauthorized access.

  • Surveillance: Utilizing surveillance systems to monitor activities and deter potential security breaches.

  • Security Awareness: Conducting workshops and seminars to educate the university community on safety practices and protocols.

Recent Developments

In recent years, ADSU has undertaken significant measures to enhance campus security:

  • Modernization of Security Infrastructure: Upgrading surveillance systems and communication tools to improve monitoring and response capabilities.

  • Training and Capacity Building: Organizing regular training sessions for security personnel to stay abreast of best practices and emerging security challenges.

  • Community Engagement: Fostering a culture of safety through collaboration with students, staff, and the surrounding community.

Collaboration with External Agencies

ADSU’s Security Unit maintains strong partnerships with external security agencies, including the Nigerian Police Force and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps. These collaborations facilitate information sharing, joint training exercises, and coordinated responses to security incidents.

The Faces Behind Campus Safety

The Security Unit operates under the Office of the Vice-Chancellor and is led by the Chief Security Officer (CSO). The CSO oversees a team of trained security personnel who are strategically deployed across various locations within the university to ensure comprehensive coverage.
